The Terracon North Carolina Region has an opening for an accomplished Program Manager to lead our growing Environmental Planning and Permitting (EPP) practice. Our regional EPP team has more than 25 years serving clients throughout the region in sectors including Power Generation and Transmission (including renewable energy), Transportation and Infrastructure, Digital Infrastructure, and Retail/Commercial, providing services including wetland and waters of the U.S. delineation and permitting, threatened and endangered species (T&E) assessments, cultural resource management, and NEPA studies.
As Regional EPP Program Manager, you will work closely with Terracon’s Director of Regional Operations, the Eastern Operating Group’s Environmental Service Line Director, and Terracon’s EPP Practice Leader to develop and implement a strategy for growth in the region. You will lead the regional EPP team including recruiting, mentoring, and developing environmental planning practitioners, and will champion EPP business development in the region.
This position can be based out of Terracon’s Raleigh or Charlotte offices.
Essential Role and Responsibilities:
- Program/Project Management
- Grow and develop an existing EPP program by strategically leveraging existing resources within the region, the SE Division and across Terracon
- Evaluates complex laboratory and field data and assembles in written reports
- May serve as team member or lead in meetings and communications with client pertaining to specific projects/tasks
- May oversee work performed by lower-level environmental scientists and technicians
- Mentor and develop mid- and entry-level natural resources and NEPA specialists regionally by:
- Becoming an Approved Project Reviewer (APR) within Terracon’s quality program within 6-9 months of start date
- Facilitating training, coaching, and employee development within the region
- Conducting occasional fieldwork with mid- and entry-level practitioners on moderate-to-complex projects to serve as a mentor
- Further development of Terracon’s regional team by cultivating a one-team approach connecting practitioners across multiple offices within the region to deliver success together
- Career-level, fully competent environmental planning professional responsible for leading and mentoring project management and project delivery
- Business Development and Proposals
- Lead EPP team efforts to cultivate external relationships and capture work
- Responsible for developing written proposals to clients for both small and large projects
- Responsible for enhancing existing client relationships and expanding Terracon’s presence in the NC marketplace and throughout the Southeast division
- Develop environmental planning business regionally through client engagement activities including presentations and business networking with emphasis on key regional clients
- Work with Terracon’s existing client development team, national account managers, and sector teams to increase the book of business for EPP services in the region
- Safety and Quality
- Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects
- Participate in pre-task planning
- Report any safety issues or concerns to management
- Be responsible for maintaining quality standards
- Availability to travel overnight within the Southeast Division to implement strategy with occasional meetings elsewhere in the U.S.
- Demonstrated experience in a consulting environment for EPP related services
- Bachelor’s degree in technical discipline practices by the Firm including Engineering, Environmental Science, Anthropology or Geology and a minimum of 15 years’ related experience.
- Flexibility to work various schedules depending on client needs
- Ability to work and communicate with others in various environmental settings
- Possess strong written and verbal communication skills
- Capable of multi-tasking within flexible/fluid schedules and project needs
- Eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
- Ability to pass drug screening
- Possess a valid U.S. driver’s license with acceptable violation history
Preferred Qualifications:
- Project Management Professional (PMP)
- Professional Engineer (PE), Professional Geologist (PG), Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS), Registered Professional Archaeologists (RPA), Certified Wildlife Biologist (CWB) or similar professional registration/certification relevant to the type of services and projects being managed.
- Professional experience and familiarity working with a diverse array of client types and projects such as solar farms; oil and gas; multifamily, commercial and industrial developments; telecommunications; and/or municipal, state, or federal agency project work
