Job Description
Terracon’s Twin Cities operations is seeking an environmental professional to join our team as an Environmental Field Scientist! If you’re eager to learn and grow in the exciting world of environmental consulting this position is for you.
You will join a strong group of engineers and environmental professionals that makeup a center of excellence for regulatory compliance services within Terracon.
This position will have a primary focus of assisting team members with regulatory compliance tasks. This includes opportunities to support our interesting array of industrial clients and being part of the team that provides ongoing consulting services at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Primary tasks include projects involving:
  • Stormwater permitting and compliance
  • SPCC Plan and SWPPP Preparation
  • SARA Title III reporting
  • Remediation system design
  • Industrial wastewater permitting, sampling, and reporting
  • Air permit emissions calculations and application development
  • Hazardous waste consulting
  • Field work in support of project work
This position will work with other staff members to prepare engineering calculations, complete reports, conduct field work, and perform site evaluations. Terracon also includes geotechnical, materials testing, and facilities services. This position may provide opportunities to cross train and learn skills in these exciting fields.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Following safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects
  • Assisting in performing site visits, site observations, and data collection
  • Field work including environmental sampling and testing
  • Preparation of compliance reports and permit applications for clients
  • Review of federal, state, and local regulations
  • Review of issued permits to determine required compliance actions
  • Preparation of air emission calculations and permit applications
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science discipline or other science
  • 0 to 2 years of experience in Environmental or similar discipline
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of applications
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD preferred
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.

Base Compensation Range
$55,900 to $78,200


Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
  • Understand and practice quality acumen.
  • Support consistent quality standards on proposal and project delivery.
  • Developing level scientific professional responsible for conducting analyses of component portions of projects; assignments are designed to develop knowledge and abilities.
  • Perform site visits, field observations and field data collection or assignments.
  • Assist in the collection and analysis of data from sampling, reports, maps, drawings, tests and aerial photographs to evaluate, plan and permit projects.
  • Conduct water, soil and other sampling.
  • Implements technical requirements to complete client projects by directing field staff to sample, test and collect data and/or document site activities.
  • Outlines required investigative program(s) by selecting the proper alternative techniques to conduct site studies in field of expertise.
  • Drafts written proposals to clients for small projects and may assist with portions of proposals on larger projects.
  • May have limited client contact pertaining to specific projects/tasks.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or related science field. Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 1 year related experience.Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 5 years’ related experience.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
Preferred Certification:
  • Certification in field of expertise preferred.


The expected salary range for this position is listed below. The base range may be adjusted based on the specific location of the applicant. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
Minimum $55900 - Maximum $78200
