Job Summary:

Your primary responsibility as a Building Enclosure Technician in the Facilities Service Line will be assisting staff engineers, architects, project managers, and testing leads with field testing of building enclosure systems. Some experience with commercial and multi-family construction and a basic familiarity with waterproofing, wall, window and roofing systems is required for this position. You may have the opportunity to assist with other testing performed by the Facilities Service Line. Effective communication skills are critical, as you will need to communicate with project managers, other technicians, client representatives, contractor’s representatives, and others as applicable regarding the construction site, project requirements, and testing, observation, and inspection requirements and results. You will be responsible for tabulating, preparing, and submitting data and observation summaries in the form of written and digital reports as work is performed for daily transmittal to the Terracon Project Manager or as otherwise instructed. You will also be responsible to maintain, clean, and calibrate equipment, vehicles, and work areas.

This position offers excellent opportunities for advancement. Demonstrated proficiency at this position will present rapid opportunities including testing team lead, testing specialist, field observer, and building enclosure consultant among others.
  • This position typically has a 75%/25% field/office commitment.
  • This position may occasionally require overnight travel.
  • This position may occasionally require overtime work.
  • This position requires the ability to work at heights, and operate suspended scaffolds and aerial work platforms. You will be required to complete operator certification training for this equipment.
  • The formal title for this position is Engineering Technician III
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Performs testing, observation, and inspection as directed in accordance with training and the specified procedures.
  • Provides clear documentation of findings and results.
  • Performs basic analysis of data to verify accuracy before communication and submittal to the Project Manager.
  • Communicates information to Project Manager and other personnel as directed by the PM.
  • Has experience and proficiency in multiple areas of field testing and inspection.
  • May train lower level technicians
  • May lead the activities of other technicians on larger field projects.
  • Maintains equipment and calibration.
  • Follows safety rules and practices and other safety requirements for all projects. Performs pre-task planning prior to executing work. Reports any safety issues or concerns to management.
  • Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience or the equivalent in training and related experience.
  • Experience with laptop computer use and Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Successful completion of related internal safety certifications
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.
Preferred Experience:
  • Documented project history in support of obtaining IIBEC certifications such as RRO (Registered Roof Observer)
  • Experience with the following test standards:
    • ASTM E783
    • ASTM E1105
    • AAMA 501.2
