Job Description
Job Summary:
Your primary responsibility as a Senior Building Enclosure / BECx Consultant in the Facilities Service Line will be to manage multiple projects in support of our building enclosure practice area. The ideal candidate will demonstrate significant experience with commercial and multi-family construction as well as comfort with most building enclosure assemblies, including roofing, exterior walls, fenestrations, coatings, and waterproofing systems. While the focus of this position will be Building Enclosure Commissioning related services, including third-party or owner’s rep type services, general experience with one or multiple building enclosure sub-practice areas is a plus. The Terracon Building Enclosure Practice Area includes the following sub-practices:
- Commissioning (BECx)
- Testing
- Scanning and Imaging
- Remedial Design and Construction
- New Design and Construction
- Historic Preservation
This position offers excellent opportunities for advancement. Demonstrated proficiency at this position may present opportunities including group manager and sub-practice area lead among others.
- This position typically has a 25%/75% field/office commitment.
- This position may occasionally require overnight travel.
- The formal title for this position is Senior Project Manager
- Serve the role of Commissioning Authority or Professional as a member of the commissioning team, following accepted practices.
- Where appropriate, provide third-party reviews of project documents and/or serve as a representative for project stakeholders.
- Lead interactions with client and stakeholders to ensure their goals are being considered in execution of the work
- Manage all aspects of a project including large scale and complex projects.
- Work with client or National Account Manager to define project scope, schedule and budget. Estimate costs, resources, and time required to complete.
- Design, communicate, and implement a project plan for completing the project. Prepare forecasts for expenditures and manages scope, schedule to meet budget
- Lead safety efforts including preparation and compliance with approved safety plan.
- Take action to resolve operational problems and minimize delays.
- Identify, develop, and gather the resources to complete the project. This may include preparing calculations, designs, reports and work specifications; developing project schedules, budgets and forecasts; and selecting materials, equipment, project staff, and external contractors.
- Monitor activities, allocate resources, and assign tasks to ensure targets are met.
- Partner with other departments or offices to secure specialized resources for the project.
- Conduct meetings and prepare reports to communicate the status of the project.
- Set priorities, assign tasks, and coordinates project staff to meet project targets and milestones.
- Coordinate with APRs to ensure appropriate oversight is in place and sufficient time allowed for reviews of all critical junctures.
- Coordinate with accounting for financial management of business intelligence, invoicing and collections
- Develop understanding and be aware of project-related risk. Be familiar with what could go wrong on a project and how to protect the Company. Be familiar with company risk policies.
- Lead safety efforts for team and ensure team follows safety rules and guidelines. Responsible for creating and modeling a safe work environment; demonstrates safety practices. Promote pre-task planning for all projects.
- Responsible for continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects. Monitor and promote quality standards and practices.
- Responsible for providing consistent quality standards on project and proposal delivery. Engage APRs on projects at their onset.
- Begin documented mentoring and application process for Terracon Authorized Project Reviewer certification.
- Bachelor’s degree in technical discipline practiced by the firm including Engineering, Architecture, and/or Building Science and a minimum of 10 years’ related experience. Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 14 years’ related experience.
- Recognized BECx certifications such as BECxP and/or CxA+BE, or the ability to obtain this certification within 12 months. If necessary, Terracon will support the candidate in obtaining these certifications if it is clear that the candidate has appropriate levels of experience and documented credentials.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
- Professional Engineer (PE), or NCARB Registered Architect (RA) desired
- Credentials such as RRC, RWC, REWC, RBEC a plus
