Environmental Consulting Asbestos Senior Staff Scientist
Terracon is seeking a qualified Senior Staff Scientist to grow and expand our asbestos and industrial hygiene practice based out of Wheat Ridge, Colorado. Successful candidate must possess Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) asbestos certification(s) with a minimum of five years of experience conducting asbestos / hazardous material inspections and oversight of remediation activities.
As a Senior Staff Scientist with asbestos credentials, you will work closely with the Asbestos and Industrial Hygiene Group Manager on our hazardous materials and industrial hygiene projects and to perform project work timely and cost effectively while meeting our client’s requirements as well as company policies, procedures, and standards. You will work with our Colorado Front Range team to prepare winning proposals for asbestos, lead, and other hazardous materials and industrial hygiene inspections, prepare bid specifications, and coordinate abatement oversight. You will prepare reports documenting inspections and abatement projects for clients and will coach and mentor entry-level staff on quality data generation and reporting.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
- Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
- Integrate quality leadership practices into daily regimen.
- Provide consistent quality standards on proposal and project delivery.
- Mid-level, experienced scientific professional responsible for conducting site testing and making recommendations for systems design on medium sized projects with a variety of complexity.
- Participates with more senior scientists/engineers on large, more complex projects.
- Performs site visits, field observations and field data collection or assignments.
- Implements technical requirements to complete client projects by directing and supervising field staff to sample, test and collect data and/or document site activities.
- Responsible for developing written proposals to clients for both small and large projects including quality control review of proposals written by others.
- Evaluates complex laboratory and field data and assembles in written reports.
- May serve as team member or lead in meetings and communications with clients pertaining to specific projects/tasks.
- May oversee work performed by lower-level scientists/engineers and Technicians.
- Works under the supervision of a Terracon Authorized Project Reviewer.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a science or worker health and safety-related discipline such as Environmental Health, Chemistry, Industrial Safety, Industrial Hygiene or related science field and a minimum of 5 years’ related experience. Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 9 years’ related experience.
- Minimum of five years hazardous materials/ industrial hygiene practice experience or equivalent.
- Current CDPHE certified asbestos credentials.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with clients and team.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history
- Solid understanding of CDPHE, OSHA, EPA and local requirements related to asbestos, lead, and hazardous building materials.
The expected salary range for this position is listed below. The base range may be adjusted based on the specific location of the applicant. Final compensation agreed upon is based upon individual qualifications and experience. Minimum $85,000 - Maximum $100,000
