The Field Facilities Professional Technician is responsible for planning, coordinating, and performing field testing and performance verification of building enclosure systems for new and existing buildings. This role supports our building enclosure consulting practice by evaluating the performance of roofing, waterproofing, fenestration, façade, and air barrier systems through field testing, inspections, and documentation. The position combines hands-on field work, technical problem solving, and reporting.
Working under the guidance of building enclosure professionals, the technician will develop testing plans, conduct performance verification testing, document findings, investigate deficiencies, and prepare professional reports and recommendations.
- Conduct commonly performed building enclosure performance verification testing, including AAMA and ASTM standard tests for: water penetration and air leakage testing of windows; whole-building air leakage; electronic leakage detection for waterproofing and roofing; adhesion testing of air and water-resistive barriers; and others.
- Provide Quality Assurance (QA) Observation of building construction.
- Support building enclosure commissioning, quality assurance, forensic investigations, and condition assessment projects
- Review project drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and submittals to understand testing requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Plan, coordinate, and perform field testing of building envelope systems on new construction and existing buildings.
- Assist with development of project-specific testing procedures, schedules, and site logistics plans.
- Operate, maintain, calibrate, and transport specialized testing equipment and instrumentation.
- Document field observations, testing procedures, deficiencies, and corrective actions using photographs, field notes, and digital reporting tools.
- Communicate testing results and recommendations to contractors, owners, architects, and project team members.
- Travel to project sites throughout the region and occasionally outside the region as required.
- Maintain compliance with company health, safety, and quality management procedures.
- Associate's degree and 2 years of experience, technical diploma and 3 years of experience, or bachelor's degree in Building Science, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field preferred. In lieu of a degree, 4–9 years of related experience may be considered.
A valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history is required and ability to travel to project sites.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1 to 5 years of experience in building envelope consulting, construction inspection, field testing, commissioning, glazing, roofing, waterproofing, or related construction disciplines preferred. Interested candidates with additional years of experience will be considered.
- Professional certifications such as RRO, REWO, CET, EIT, BECxP, PE, or P.Eng. are considered assets.
- Knowledge of building enclosure systems, including façades, glazing, curtain walls, windows, roofing, waterproofing, insulation, air barriers, and weather-resistive barriers.
- Familiarity with ASTM, AAMA, ANSI, and related building enclosure testing standards.
- Experience using field testing equipment, data collection tools, and reporting software is preferred.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams.
- OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour training, MEWP, air barrier testing, thermography, building enclosure commissioning, or related certifications are considered assets.
- Ability to safely access construction sites, climb ladders and scaffolding, lift testing equipment (up to 50 lbs), and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Maximum Salary: 85,000.00
Minimum Salary: 62,370.00
