General Responsibilities:

We are seeking a Materials Project Manager to lead small to medium-sized construction materials engineering projects from planning through closeout. This role is responsible for safe, timely delivery within contracted scope and budget and brings together project controls, field operations, construction materials testing, procurement, forecasting, change management, quality oversight, and client coordination. The successful candidate will direct internal and external resources, resolve operational issues, maintain project documentation and financial visibility, and coordinate appropriate Authorized Project Reviewer (APR) involvement at project onset and critical junctures.

Work Environment

This role requires coordination across office, field, laboratory, and client environments. Travel to project sites may be required based on assignment needs. Responsibilities may include work around active construction operations and construction materials testing activities, with adherence to applicable safety requirements.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, forecasts, risk, quality, and project controls for construction materials engineering assignments.

  • Partner with the client or NAM to define scope, schedule, budget, deliverables, and success criteria, then develop and communicate the project execution plan.

  • Monitor progress and performance, identify emerging issues, and implement timely corrective actions to minimize delays and cost impacts.

  • Lead safety planning and compliance, including pre-task planning, hazard awareness, field coordination, inspections, and reinforcement of project-specific requirements.

  • Coordinate owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, laboratories, field technicians, and other project personnel throughout delivery.

  • Direct and support construction materials testing and inspection activities involving soils, concrete, asphalt, reinforcing steel, anchors, deep foundations, and related field or laboratory documentation, as applicable.

  • Manage RFIs, submittals, procurement, change orders, contract administration, project documentation, turnover, and closeout.

  • Identify and secure the staff, equipment, laboratories, specialty resources, and external contractors required to complete the work.

  • Set priorities, assign tasks, coordinate field and office resources, and track progress toward project targets and milestones.

  • Lead project meetings and prepare clear reports on status, financial performance, risks, quality issues, decisions, and required actions.

  • Coordinate with the APR to establish appropriate oversight and allow sufficient review time at critical junctures.

  • Coordinate with accounting on financial reporting, invoicing, cost control, change management, collections, budgets, and forecasts.

  • Maintain awareness of project-related risk and company risk policies, including conditions that could affect safety, quality, schedule, cost, or client commitments.

  • Promote continuous quality improvement and consistent standards in field services, technical documentation, project delivery, and proposals.

  • Communicate proactively with clients and stakeholders and deliver work products that satisfy contracted requirements.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in technical discipline practices by the Firm including Engineering, Environmental Science or Geology and a minimum of 5 years’ related experience. Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 9 years’ related experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with project controls, scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, procurement, change management, contract administration, and project closeout.

  • Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary stakeholders, subcontractors, field personnel, and technical resources.

  • Working knowledge of construction safety, quality practices, field documentation, and risk management.

  • A valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history may be required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on construction materials testing or inspection experience involving soils, concrete, asphalt, reinforcing steel, anchors, foundations, or related services.

  • Project leadership experience on commercial, industrial, education, federal, infrastructure, public works, or renovation projects.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP), Construction Manager in Training (CMIT), Professional Engineer (PE), Professional Geologist (PG), or another relevant credential.

  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety, CPR/First Aid, excavation safety, or comparable safety training.

  • Experience with project and financial management platforms such as Procore, Viewpoint Financials, Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft Project, and Microsoft 365.
