Environmental Project Manager (Tallahassee)


Essential Responsibilities: Manage all aspects of a small to medium sized environmental projects. Conduct environmental site investigations, assessments and surveys to sample, measure and analyze air, water, material, and soil. Identify, evaluate and recommend risk and remediation strategies/designs to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations. Prepare applicable permit applications, risk assessments and technical documents including proposals, reports and regulatory agency correspondence. Projects may include tank closure assessments, storm water management, asbestos, mold, lead paint, and industrial hygiene surveys, indoor air quality investigations, occupational health exposure assessments and preparation and delivery of technical reports.

Key Responsibilities: 

Industrial Hygiene Assessments: Under the supervision of a Board-Certified Industrial Hygienist, perform qualitative and quantitative exposure assessments, including noise assessments and hearing conservation program audits. Conduct health and safety audits, ventilation and lighting surveys, and indoor environmental quality investigations. Carry out employee exposure assessments and provide recommendations for hazard mitigation. Calibrate, clean, and maintain field monitoring equipment, including sampling devices, sampling media, and sample pumps and meters. 

Asbestos and Lead-Based Paint: Perform building inspections for asbestos-containing materials in accordance with regulatory guidelines. Conduct air monitoring and visual inspections during asbestos and lead abatement projects. Sample painted coatings in commercial and industrial settings. 

Microbial and Indoor Environmental Quality Consulting: Conduct microbial and water damage assessments and microbial remediation monitoring. Conduct comprehensive IEQ assessments in various settings, including commercial, institutional, and industrial environments. Identify sources of indoor air pollutants, including biological, chemical, and particulate matter. Evaluate ventilation systems and recommend improvements to enhance IEQ. Develop and implement IEQ management plans to maintain healthy indoor environments. 

Regulatory Compliance and Safety: Follow safety rules, guidelines, and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning and report any safety issues or concerns to management. Adhere to strict company health and safety standards and maintain quality standards on all projects. 

Project Support and Documentation: Develop operations and maintenance plans and microbial remediation protocols. Provide remediation oversight and air monitoring services. Maintain accurate and thorough project documentation. 

Essential Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or a related scientific field. 2-5 years of relevant experience in industrial hygiene, safety, asbestos, microbial, or lead-based paint. Willingness to acquire necessary certifications for microbial, asbestos, and lead inspections within 6 months or sooner. Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, building science, or a related field, preferred. Valid driver's license with an acceptable violation history. Travel throughout the north Florida, south Georgia, and south Alabama. Overnight travel as needed. Ability to climb ladders, lift and carry equipment (generally up to 50 lbs.), and stand for long periods. Strong understanding of federal, state, and local environmental regulations. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Proficiency in using environmental sampling equipment and software. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent report writing skills, proficiency in related computer software (Word, Excel). 

General Responsibilities:

Prepare applicable permit applications, risk assessments and technical documents including proposals, reports and regulatory agency correspondence. Design systems and environmental protection plans. Projects may include Phase I/II environmental site assessments, ecological and natural resource field surveys, tank closure assessments, asbestos abatement, storm water management, and site planning and permitting.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
  • Integrate quality leadership practices into daily regimen.
  • Provide consistent quality standards on proposal and project delivery.
  • Mid-level, experienced scientific professional responsible for conducting site testing and making recommendations for systems design on medium sized projects with a variety of complexity.
  • Participates with more senior scientists/engineers on large, more complex projects.
  • Performs site visits, field observations and field data collection or assignments.
  • Implements technical requirements to complete client projects by directing and supervising field staff to sample, test and collect data and/or document site activities.
  • Responsible for developing written proposals to clients for both small and large projects including quality control review of proposals written by others.
  • Evaluates complex laboratory and field data and assembles in written reports.
  • May serve as team member or lead in meetings and communications with client pertaining to specific projects/tasks.
  • May oversee work performed by lower level scientists/engineers and Technicians.
  • Works under the supervision of a Terracon Authorized Project Reviewer.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or related science field. Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 5 years’ related experience.Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 9 years’ related experience.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Certification in field of expertise required.
