Terracon is seeking an experienced Senior Staff Scientist to support and lead Industrial Hygiene (IH) and Hazardous Materials consulting projects within the Building and Environmental Services (BES) group. This position provides technical expertise and project leadership for asbestos, lead-based paint, mold, indoor air quality (IAQ), hazardous building materials assessments, and construction-related environmental monitoring services.
The Senior Staff Scientist will manage field investigations, coordinate project activities, oversee regulatory compliance, prepare technical reports, support business development efforts, and serve as a technical resource to project teams and clients. The ideal candidate possesses strong technical knowledge of industrial hygiene practices, hazardous materials regulations, and building science principles, along with a demonstrated ability to manage projects and mentor junior staff.
- Conduct and manage asbestos-containing material (ACM) inspections and surveys in commercial, industrial, healthcare, educational, and government facilities.
- Perform lead-based paint inspections, risk assessments, and renovation/demolition surveys.
- Conduct mold investigations, moisture intrusion assessments, and indoor environmental quality evaluations.
- Perform indoor air quality (IAQ) assessments related to occupant concerns, ventilation systems, contaminants, and building performance.
- Conduct hazardous building materials assessments to support renovation, demolition, acquisition, and facility management projects.
- Evaluate exposure risks associated with asbestos, lead, mold, silica, and other occupational and environmental hazards.
- Collect environmental and industrial hygiene samples, including bulk, air, dust, wipe, and surface samples.
- Review laboratory data and interpret findings in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Document field observations and prepare daily field reports and project closeout documentation.
- Conduct air monitoring during asbestos and hazardous materials abatement projects.
- Perform clearance inspections and final visual assessments.
- Promote Terracon's culture of safety and compliance.
- Maintain adherence to company health and safety procedures.
- Perform work in accordance with OSHA, EPA, AHERA, NIOSH, ASTM, and applicable state regulations.
