Terracon Consultants, Inc. is seeking a motivated Construction Materials Technician In Training for our Round Rock laboratory. You will conduct compressive strength tests on concrete cylinders and cores, prepare and test soil and aggregate samples for proctor, Atterberg, sieve analysis, and bulk specific gravity procedures, and perform bulk specific gravity and absorption tests on asphalt cores. This role offers hands‑on experience with ACI and TxDOT testing protocols, mentorship from senior technicians, and a clear path for professional growth in geotechnical and materials engineering.
- Conduct compressive strength tests on concrete cylinders and cores per ACI standards.
- Prepare soil and aggregate samples for D698, D1557, Tex‑113, and Tex‑114 proctor tests.
- Perform Atterberg limits, sieve analysis, and bulk specific gravity tests on soil samples.
- Run bulk specific gravity and absorption tests on asphalt core specimens.
- Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment in accordance with safety standards.
- Document test results accurately, maintain laboratory logs, and input data into management software.
- Assist senior technicians with sample collection, field data verification, and quality control.
- Ensure all testing procedures comply with ACI, ASTM, and TxDOT guidelines.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and regulatory‑compliant laboratory environment.
- Participate in training sessions and pursue relevant ACI or TxDOT certifications.
- Basic knowledge of concrete, soil, aggregate, and asphalt testing methods.
- Ability to operate laboratory equipment safely and accurately.
- Strong attention to detail and precise data recording skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and laboratory data management software.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
- Willingness to learn and obtain ACI or TxDOT certifications (preferred, not required).
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
- Commitment to safety protocols and quality‑assurance practices.
- Flexibility to work varied hours to meet project deadlines.
