SAGE Environmental, Inc., A Terracon Company in Providence, RI, is looking for an Environmental Regulatory Compliance and Permitting Specialist/Project Scientist to join our team.

In this role, you'll manage multi-media permitting and compliance projects across New England, collaborating with a team of environmental experts. You’ll lead projects from proposal to completion, helping industrial clients with waste-to-energy and climate resilience initiatives. You'll also mentor junior staff, providing technical guidance and support.

Key tasks include:
  • Air emissions calculations and permit applications
  • Odor evaluations and corrective actions
  • Wastewater treatment system evaluations and permitting
  • Hazardous waste consulting and SPCC/SWPPP development
  • Stormwater permitting and compliance
  • EPCRA Tier II and TRI reports
  • Compliance auditing
  • Sustainability

To be successful in this role you will need to be a motivated individual who possesses a strong technical background. You will work with and oversee other staff members to prepare engineering calculations, complete reports, conduct field work, and perform Site evaluations, ensuring project deliverables are provided on time and within budget. This position may provide opportunities for personal development and cross-training in one of Terracon’s other services provided; geotechnical, materials testing, environmental site evaluation and remediation and facilities services.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Lead a growing regulatory compliance and permitting team on existing and new projects
  • Interact with regulators and develop strong working relationships with clients
  • Support safety efforts to promote safety rules and guidelines
  • Assisting in performing site visits, site observations, and data collection
  • Review and design of sampling strategies in support of compliance needs
  • Preparation of various multi-media compliance reports and permit applications for clients
  • Review of federal, state, and local regulations
  • Review of permits issued to determine required compliance actions
  • Preparation of air emission calculations, applications, plans, reports, proposals, and other deliverables

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (e.g., Civil, Environmental, Chemical, Material Science) or Science (e.g., Atmospheric, Environmental, Meteorological, Chemistry, Toxicology, Data Science).
  • 5 to 8 years of relevant work experience in the environmental consulting industry as described above.
  • Experience managing multi-media environmental regulatory permitting and compliance projects.
  • Knowledge of local, New England state and federal environmental regulations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of applications.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Experience with air modeling programs such as AERMOD and Emission Master
  • Additional experience in OSHA-related compliance monitoring, including noise, silica dust, and microbial assessment
  • Professional engineer (PE) license.
