Terracon Consultants, Inc. is seeking a Group Manager to oversee and promote the water and wastewater operations group.
Supervise certified operators/field technicians and all projects in progress in the water/wastewater operations and maintenance group to ensure that work is executed on time and in accordance with the client's requirements and within company policies, procedures, and standards. Projects involve potable water and wastewater treatment systems as part of a circuit rider team serving municipal, commercial, institutional, transportation, and industrial clients. Treatment systems may range in size and complexity from small scale systems, pump stations, and municipal systems with various treatment technologies. Prepare proposals and cost estimates to ensure proper scoping of services, availability of manpower and pricing to achieve desired profitability. Supervise the daily operations of a group including staff training, development, and performance review, utilization of equipment and facilities, safety oversight, quality of services and work product, timely delivery of services and deliverables, and adherence to policies and procedure. Plan for and participate in business development activities to identify, develop, win, and execute project opportunities and build and maintain client relationships.
- Responsible for preparation of proposals and cost estimates.
- With support from the Department manager perform business and client development activities.
- With support from the Department Manager develop and manage employee staffing plans, recruitment, selection and on-boarding.
- With support from the Department Manager prepare and execute annual business plan for the specialty service group.
- With support from the Department Manager oversee and manage the success of the key group metrics of revenue growth, staff chargeability, project billing and collections, and project profitability.
- Develop understanding and be aware of project-related risk. Be familiar with what could go wrong on a project and how to protect the Company. Be familiar with company risk policies.
- Lead safety efforts for the group and ensure members follow safety rules and guidelines. Responsible for creating and modeling a safe work environment; demonstrates safety practices. Promote pre-task planning for all projects.
- Provide and lead continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects. Monitor and promote quality standards and practices.
- Provide consistent quality standards on project and proposal delivery.
- Oversee and review work tasks being completed by certified operators and field technicians.
- Complete/submit regulatory reports and compliance sampling results.
- Coordinate with client personnel regarding treatment system operations and maintenance.
- Respond to emergencies or alarms at treatment systems.
- Visit treatment systems to oversee operations and maintenance and evaluate/inspect treatment equipment and processes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in technical discipline practiced by the Firm including Engineering, Environmental Science or Geology and 5 years’ practice experience. Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 9 years’ related experience.
- A valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history may be required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification or licensure in field of expertise. Certified Water and/or Wastewater Operator(Class C or greater)
- OSHA 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations certified
- OSHA Confined space entry
- Experienced with routine maintenance tasks and repairs on water/wastewater treatment, mechanical, electrical, and piping systems. Inspect equipment and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed; use instrumentation and field kits; monitoring meters, controls or other indicators to ensure the treatment systems are working properly. Review and understand sample results and regulatory reports.
- Computer - using computers and their applications to enter, manipulate, edit and manage information and online regulatory reporting systems.
- Basic - the ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with others; reading comprehension; giving full attention to what others are saying and taking the time to understand the points being made; using learned methods and procedures appropriate for the situation.
