This position can be based out of any of Terracon’s offices in this region (Glendale Heights, IL or Chicago, IL). To be successful in this role, you will need to be confident and possess a strong technical background with proven leadership skills. You will guide clients, manage projects, prepare reports and other deliverables, and review documents prepared by others for accuracy, completeness, and quality following company standards. You will also lead local and regional EHS practice development efforts; maintain existing and develop new client relationships; and train, mentor, and direct staff on projects. You will serve as a local point of contact for EHS services and provide support on regional and national projects and pursuits.

The individual should have solid experience and regulatory knowledge in general EHS service areas listed below: 

  • Air permitting (Title V and minor source) 
  • Stormwater/SWPPP 
  • RCRA/Hazardous waste 
  • Compliance auditing 
  • Oil Storage/SPCC plans 
  • SARA Title III (Tier II/TRI) reporting 
  • Industrial wastewater management
  • Health and Safety Programs
  • Environmental Management Systems
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Grow and expand existing EHS compliance services.

  • Prepare calculations, applications, plans, reports, proposals, and other deliverables.

  • Lead projects and staff to ensure quality and timeliness.

  • Understand the local and regional market.

  • Develop strong working relationships with clients.

  • Develop proposals and cost estimates in response to RFPs and client requests.

  • Evaluate problems and develop practical solutions that enable our clients to achieve and maintain compliance with EHS regulations.

  • With support from the Department manager, perform business and client development activities.
  • With support from the Department Manager, develop and manage employee staffing plans, recruitment, selection, and onboarding.
  • With support from the Department Manager, prepare and execute annual business plan for the specialty service group.
  • With support from the Department Manager, oversee and manage the success of the key group metrics of revenue growth, staff chargeability, project billing and collections, and project profitability.
  • Develop understanding and be aware of project-related risk. Be familiar with what could go wrong on a project and how to protect the Company. Be familiar with company risk policies.
  • Lead safety efforts for the team and ensure the team follows safety rules and guidelines. Responsible for creating and modeling a safe work environment; demonstrates safety practices. Promote pre-task planning for all projects.
  • Provide and lead to continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects. Monitor and promote quality standards and practices.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in technical discipline practiced by the Firm including Engineering, Environmental Science or Geology.
  • 15 years’ practice experience preferred,  10 years' experience required.
  • A valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history may be required.
  • Demonstrated high level of technical writing ability.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification or licensure in field of expertise.
  • Consulting experience in the Chicago market.
