  • Supervise and coordinate field crews and laboratory work.
  • Demonstrate expertise in archaeology of the Great Lakes and Northern Plains states and the laws and regulations protecting archaeological resources.
  • Manage projects within budget and deadline constraints and be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
  • Assist with proposals and help market our archaeological services to new and existing clients.
  • Coordinate with other cultural and heritage resources professionals within Terracon across the region and nationally.
  • Grow and manage a local team of full-time and part-time field archaeologists.
  • Follow Terracon safety rules, guidelines, and standards for all projects; participate in pre-task planning; and report any safety issues or concerns to management.

Requirements:
  • Exceed the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards for Archaeology.
  • Minimum of a graduate degree in archaeology, anthropology, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of five years of archaeological experience as a Principal Investigator in the Upper Midwest (preferably Wisconsin) with a consulting cultural resource, architectural, or engineering firm or a federal or state agency such as a State Historic Preservation Office.
  • Ability to work as an Archaeological Principal Investigator under the requirements of the State Historic Preservation Officer in one or more of the following states: WI, IL, MN, IA, MI.
  • Extensive knowledge of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and other laws and regulations protecting archaeological resources.
  • Ability to be an effective multitasker without compromising quality.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting and carrying equipment, walking on uneven surfaces, and working in extreme (hot/cold) weather conditions.
  • Eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship; ability to pass drug screening; and possess a valid U.S. driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
