Job Description
General Responsibilities:
Manage the day-to-day field operations for assigned facilities, materials, environmental, or geotechnical engineering projects. Provide leadership, management skills, and direction necessary to deliver a complete construction project on schedule, within budget, and meeting assigned quality standards. Troubleshoot and recommend or resolve operational problems to minimize impacts and delays to project completion. Maintain specific, organized, and detailed project records that thoroughly document and track each project. Work closely with the Project Manager, other project team members, and the client to ensure the success of each project. Promote Terracon’s IIF culture and maintain rigid safety standards set forth in each project.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
- Client and subcontractor communication
- Onsite full-time representative for Terracon’s Pavement Replacement Projects
- Act as site safety advisor
- Coordinate and manage on-site subcontractors
- Develop a site-specific phasing plan that meets the Client’s needs and maintains the overall construction schedule and budget
- Coordinate and supervise all construction activities and staff to complete the project on schedule, with quality conformance to project plans/specifications, and within budget
- Identify subcontractor related performance issues before they occur
- Assist Project Manager in preparing and maintaining construction schedule and identifying and solving problems that may impede schedule/quality/cost
- Identify and schedule testing agencies for required construction testing as necessary
- Generate and oversee construction documentation
- Daily field forms
- Daily safety forms
- Collection of safety data sheets (SDS)
- Observe and document daily construction activities
- All additional job/site specific documentation
- Generates Daily Reports documenting construction progress
- Track construction production quantities
- Record and generate onsite project meeting agenda and minutes
- Complete final punch list for timely turnover
- Ensure all close-out documents meet required formatting and are completed on schedule
- Verifies the construction activity is in accordance with plans and specifications
- Verifies all products being used onsite are approved in the submittal log
- Coordinates all communication between the subcontractor and project team
- Tracking and generating construction as-builts
- Tracks all submittals/RFI’s by receiving from subcontractor and forwarding to designer/engineer/SME for review. Communicates status of submittal/RFI through their respective logs with the project team.
Keys to Success:
- Over Communication – We must over communicate all aspects of the project. We must have all documentation accurate.
- Pre-task Planning – Many obstacles and issues can be mitigated by performing pre-task planning
- Coordination – The contractor may only perform tasks that are in their field of expertise
- Scheduling – Terracon incorporates Liquidated Damages so maintaining an accurate schedule is required
- Proactive Responses – Terracon must be proactive and not reactive
- Foresight – Terracon must get out in front of any issues to help minimize the impact to the project schedule/budget
- Sticking to the Plan – Many individuals are impacted by our construction. Maintaining an accurate plan is required
- 1-5 years construction observation experience
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental, safety, engineering, or construction management, preferred.
- High School Diploma
- Ability to read and interpret all design drawings and specifications
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
- Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.
- NICET Level II certification in Construction Materials Testing (Asphalt, Concrete, Soils).
- NICET Level II certification in Geotechnical (Construction, Laboratory, Exploration, Generalist)
- ICC certification (Reinforced Concrete, Spray-applied Fireproofing, Structural Masonry, Prestressed/Post-Tensioned Concrete, Structural Steel – Bolting, Structural Steel – Welding).
- American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
- American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) Level II certification (Visual Testing (VT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Dye Penetrant Testing (PT), Radiographic Testing (RT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT)).
- Other national, regional, state, and local Materials related certifications requiring experience and written examination will also be considered if deemed appropriate by the Terracon Department Manager.
- ACI certification* in one or more of the following areas:
- Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I
- Concrete Strength Testing Technician
- Certified in radiation safety and Nuclear Density Gauge operation.**
