Job Description

We’re seeking a seasoned Environmental Engineer to lead complex projects and deliver innovative solutions. In this role, you’ll manage site investigations, remediation strategies, and regulatory compliance while mentoring junior staff and driving quality and safety standards. Ideal candidates bring 8+ years of experience, a PE license, and expertise in environmental regulations and remediation programs. Candidates with a background in Geology are encouraged to apply. This role can be based out of our Downtown Chicago or Glendale Heights office.

General Responsibilities:
Provide engineering and consulting services for a broad array of environmental projects and clients. This may include performing and/or leading environmental site investigations, engineering analysis, calculations and recommendations, design and development of plans and specifications, observation and inspection, and the writing, preparation, and review of related reports for the services provided. Candidate should be familiar with federal and state environmental regulations. Identify, evaluate and recommend risk and remediation strategies/designs to ensure compliance with federal, state and local environmental regulations. Prepare applicable permit applications, risk assessments and technical documents including proposals, reports and regulatory agency correspondence. Design systems and environmental protection plans. Apply sound engineering principles and be able to communicate complex engineering issues and concepts to technical and non-technical clients and project teams. Services may include a variety of environmental-related work including Phase I/II environmental site assessments, site investigation plans and implementation reports, remediation plans, remediation completion reports, ecological and natural resource field surveys, tank closure assessments, asbestos abatement, storm water management, spill prevention control and countermeasure plans and site planning and permitting.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develop understanding and be aware of project-related risk. Be familiar with what could go wrong on a project and how to protect the Company.

  • Responsible for continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects. Monitor and promote quality standards and practices.

  • Responsible for providing consistent quality standards on project and proposal delivery.

  • Lead safety efforts for team and ensure team follows safety rules and guidelines. Responsible for creating and modeling a safe work environment; demonstrates safety practices. Promote pre-task planning for all projects.

  • Senior level environmental engineering professional responsible for leading complex or unique projects requiring innovative investigation techniques.

  • Supervise the analysis and formation of recommendations in written reports.

  • Assist in establishing and updating current policies/ procedures for technical projects in field of expertise, to ensure proper interpretation and implementation by subordinate staff.

  • Provide technical direction and training to less experience professional staff.

  • Participate in the development of marketing strategies and presentations of qualifications to clients on projects.

  • Serves as a Terracon Authorized Project Reviewer.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geosciences, Geology, or related degree.

  • Minimum 8-11 years’ experience.

  • Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering preferred.

  • Experience with Clean Construction or Demolition Debris (CCDD) projects preferred.

  • Experience successfully directing / completing investigation, remediation oversight, and reporting for projects in the IEPA Site Remediation Program and Leaking Underground Storage Tank Program

  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG) registration.

The expected salary range for this position is listed below. The base range may be adjusted based on the specific location of the applicant. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
Minimum $102200 - Maximum $158400
