Job Description
General Responsibilities:
Terracon is currently seeking a Natural Resources / Environmental Planning Project Scientist to join our growing Chattanooga office. You will be working with the Environmental Planning staff throughout the Southeast to assist with Waters of the United States Delineations, Permitting, and Mitigation; National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Assessments (Categorical Exclusions, EAs, EIS documents), and threatened and endangered species (T&E) related services; and may assist with environmental site investigations, assessments and surveys to sample, measure and analyze air, water, material, and soil. Responsibilities will include proposal preparation, client development, project management, report preparation, and mentoring junior staff.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
  • Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
  • Proficient scientific professional responsible for project management.
  • May assist senior scientists/engineers on large, more complex projects.
  • Performs site visits, field observations and field data collection or assignments.
  • Implements technical requirements to complete client projects by directing and supervising field staff to sample, test and collect data and/or document site activities.
  • Responsible for developing written proposals to clients for approval by senior level professionals.
  • Evaluates field data and assembles in written reports.
  • May serve as team member and participate in meetings and communications with client pertaining to specific projects/tasks.
  • May oversee work performed by junior-level scientists/engineers and technicians.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or related science field and a minimum of 7 years’ related experience. Or in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 11 years’ related experience
  • Tennessee Qualified Hydrologic Professional Certification preferred (TN-QHP)
  • Experience with wetland delineation and CWA Section 404/401 permitting
  • Prior Experience with NEPA projects preferred
  • Strong report writing skills
  • Understanding of the Endangered Species Act
  • Knowledge of the flora and fauna of TN/GA preferred
  • Experience in ArcGIS and familiarity with use/application of CAD and Microstation files
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history
