As an Construction Materials Special Inspector, you will play a crucial role in our team who observes, samples and tests construction materials such as soils and foundations, concrete, masonry and steel on various construction sites. Your responsibilities will include review of project plans and relevant building codes and specifications, communicating with various stakeholders, and transporting samples for further testing. You will also assist with scheduling and ensure all equipment is maintained and cleaned. This role offers an opportunity to work with a diverse range of materials and people and contribute to the success of our projects while being a leader in safety.
- Perform field observations and inspections of construction materials, including soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel.
- Communicate with project managers, engineering technicians, and client/contractor representatives regarding site requirements and testing results.
- Transport material samples to the laboratory for analysis, ensuring proper documentation.
- Prepare and submit daily reports on testing and observations to the Terracon Project Manager.
- Assist with the scheduling and dispatch of technicians to project sites.
- Maintain and clean all equipment, vehicles, and work areas to ensure safety and efficiency.
- Adhere to and promote strict safety standards and protocols on-site.
- Collaborate with the team to ensure smooth project execution and timely reporting.
- Stay updated with industry trends and best practices in construction materials testing.
- Provide support and guidance to junior technicians as needed.
- ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I certification is required.
- ICC Special Inspector Certification in Soils, Structural Masonry, and/or Reinforced Concrete is preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in construction materials testing or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of construction materials, testing procedures, and industry standards.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with various stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proficiency in using testing equipment and maintaining accurate records.
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Basic computer skills, including MS Office suite, for report preparation.
- Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
