Roofing Observers provide Quality Assurance (QA) observations that examine the application, alteration, or repair of commercial roof systems for conformance with project specific requirements. Roofing Observers make observations during the initial phase of construction and throughout the construction project to monitor conformance with project requirements.
This position entails providing full-time roof observations at select projects in the general area.Projects may require up to 10 hours a day, 6 days a week on site weather permitting.. Assignments may be several months in length though field work will typically be assigned as 4 weeks on, 1 week off.This work will be performed at roof deck elevations.Terracon will support provisions to provide a safe work environment including fall protection, hydration, and sun protection as appropriate.
While some familiarity with commercial construction practices is preferred, Terracon will provide continuous support and training associated with commercial roofing installation to support your development. Successful performance of this role will facilitate obtaining a Registered Roof Observer (RRO) certification.
Future opportunities in this role may include support of remote projects within Terracon’s service area.Job support including travel will include an appropriate per-diem and may be eligible for project-specific pay increases or bonuses.
Typical roof systems observed in this role will predominantly be low slope, though some steep slope assemblies may be encountered. Observations are coordinated with our clients and contractors.

- Observe construction projects to ensure roofing components are in conformance with project requirements.
- Provide help and offer alternate methods of construction to meet the intent of project requirements.
- Provide help and offer options to questions that arise during construction.
- Review project documentation including construction drawings, specifications and submittals which become the basis for construction observations.
- Effectively communicate verbally and in writing observation findings for internal quality reviews and to our client and contractors.
- Coordinate with the contractor’s Quality Control (QC) inspectors.
- Explain and clarify project requirements with contractor’s field personnel.
- Must be computer literate to record, retrieve, update and keep accurate record of construction observations.
- Must have working knowledge of the principles, practices, materials and tools of the building construction trade.
Must be able to use laptop, tablet and smart phone to enter and update information as well as look up specific project requirements.
- Maintain assigned equipment.
Demonstrate ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Texas Driver's License and reliable transportation.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience or the equivalent in training and related experience.
- Experience with laptop computer use and Microsoft Word and Excel
- A valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history may be required.
Preferred Qualifications: Certifications in two or more of the following areas:
IIBEC Registered Roof Observer (RRO) certification is preferred but not required.
