Job Description
Terracon is seeking a skilled AutoCAD/Microstation Technician, preferably with OpenRoads experience, to join our Geotechnical Design and Instrumentation (GDI). With offices nationwide we are flexible with the office location and remote/hybrid environment will be considered for the right applicant. Part time schedule open for consideration.
This role is ideal for someone looking to grow their design experience by working on a wide variety of projects. The successful candidate will have experience with Civil 3D, AutoCAD, Microstation, OpenRoads, Revit, and other technical software along with use their strong technical skills on a variety of design projects. General Responsibilities:
Perform computer aided drafting (CAD) for preparation of engineering drawings using industry appropriate software. Uses standard symbol sets and drawings to minimize drawing effort. Performs hand drafting as needed. May reference information from vendor prints, catalogs, and technical manuals.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
- Develop and prepare engineering designs and drawings from preliminary concepts, sketches, specification sheets and other data, using computer-aided design (CAD), according to client specifications.
- Submit documentation packages and produce drawing sets and standard operating procedures.
- Check and verify design drawings to conform to specifications and design data
- Trains subordinate CAD Operators and helps establish drafting standards for the company.
- Purchases or recommends purchase of all needed hardware and supplies.
- Acts as initial contact with clients or other departments, ensures the CAD systems are kept up to data with current hardware/software and ensures equipment is properly maintained.
- Classify and organize engineering drawings.
- Utilize Bentley's OpenRoads software to develop 3D models, alignments, profiles, corridors, and cross-sections for transportation projects.
- Mentor, train, and provide guidance to other staff engineers in the use of OpenRoads.
- Transform preliminary sketches into engineering designs and drawings using AutoCAD/Microstation software as well as other technical software as needed.
- Collaborate with engineers, architects, and project managers to integrate design components into overall project plans.
- Prepare detailed drawings, plans, and specifications for heavy civil construction projects.
- Serves as the drafting lead, discipline designer, and/or drafting approver on multiple projects. The position is responsible for providing illustrated computerized drafting according to project specifications.
- Conduct design reviews, constructability assessments, and quality control checks to ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
- Assist in the preparation of project reports, presentations, and client communications.
- Stay updated with industry trends, software advancements, and best practices related to CAD design.
- Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
- Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
- High school diploma with vocational technical training in AutoCAD or a 2- or 4-year degree in CAD drafting/design technology.
- Minimum of 5 years of work experience in CAD software design.
- Understanding of Bentley's OpenRoads software and related tools (OpenRoads Designer, OpenRoads ConceptStation, etc.).
- Familiarity with relevant design standards and guidelines (AASHTO, FHWA, state DOTs).
- Strong technical skills in OpenRoads Designer/MicroStation, AutoCAD/Civil 3D, Revit, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Highly organized, with significant attention to detail and are able to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities.
- Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree in graphic or drafting technology preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
The national standard salary range for this position is $23.50-$32.75. The base range may be adjusted based on the specific location of the applicant. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
