Job Description
General Responsibilities:
Projects the candidate may be involved with include, but are not necessarily limited to the following: Phase I/II environmental site assessments data research, field reconnaissance, and reporting; asbestos, lead, and hazardous materials inspections, reporting, and abatement oversight; industrial hygiene exposure assessments, sampling, and reporting; aboveground and underground storage tank closure assessments and oversight; and oversight of emergency response spill cleanups. Calibrate, operate, and maintain field monitoring equipment. Conduct environmental site investigations and exposure assessments and surveys to sample, measure and analyze concentrations of contaminants in air, water, soil, building and other materials. Prepare samples for shipment and document sample collection and laboratory submission on chain of custody documentation. Identify, evaluate and recommend risk and remediation strategies/designs to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations. Prepare applicable technical documents including proposals, reports, regulatory agency correspondence, permit applications, exposure assessments, and safety audits. Prepare and implement environmental protection, and health and safety plans.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Follow Terracon and client safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
  • Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
  • Perform site visits, field observations and field data collection or assignments.
  • Assist in the collection and analysis of data from sampling, reports, maps, drawings, tests and aerial photographs to evaluate, plan and permit projects.
  • Perform industrial hygiene exposure assessments under the direction of senior staff to determine the level of airborne and surface contaminants, noise, and other occupational stressors that workers are exposed to, and subsequently compare the finding to established occupational exposure limits.
  • Perform site safety audits to determine compliance with established regulations and polices.
  • Implements technical requirements to complete client projects by sampling, testing and collecting data and/or document site activities.
  • Outline required investigative program(s) by selecting the proper alternative techniques to conduct site studies in field of expertise.
  • Draft written proposals to clients for small projects and may assist with portions of proposals on larger projects.
  • May have limited client contact pertaining to specific projects/tasks.
  • Ability and willingness to work in cold, hot, and physically-demanding settings.
  • Must be able to communicate with coworkers, subcontractors, and clients effectively.
  • Must exhibit a strong work ethic and positive attitude.
  • Availability to travel and perform work over the course of consecutive days involving overnight stays near project sites as needed. When needed, willing to accept a flexible schedule to complete work within client-mandated schedule and timeframe.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or related science field and a minimum of 1 year related experience. Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 5 years’ related experience.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
  • Acceptable background check.
Preferred Certification:
  • Certification in field of expertise.
  • Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response 40 hour initial training.
  • Asbestos Building and/or Lead Inspector Training and Certification.
