Job Description


For candidates pursuing a career in Geophysics. Terracon is growing and hiring a near-surface field-staff Geophysicist in our Minneapolis, Minnesota office! Our Minneapolis office utilizes a comprehensive range of near-surface geophysical technologies in support of geotechnical, environmental, engineering, and materials testing investigations, including utility location. This position is for a geoscientist who will be responsible to perform non-invasive geophysical surveys from the ground surface to provide images or models of subsurface. You will assist in defining survey objectives, designing survey approaches, performing quality control on data, analyzing the geophysical data, and provide interpretation of results. These results are incorporated into the planning, design, renovation, and construction of vital infrastructure such as roads, tunnels, airports, landfills, water supplies, and other facilities; the assessment of environmental conditions; and the evaluation of earth resources. Geophysics is a growing field that supports all four of Terracon’s service lines.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

• Follow Terracon safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any unsafe activities or concerns to management.
• Be responsible for maintaining high-quality standards on all projects.
• Proficient Geophysicist responsible for conducting geophysical surveys and making contributions for design and safety of various engineering projects.
• Geophysical Techniques include
  • Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR),
  • Time Domain Electromagnetics (TDEM),
  • Frequency Domain Electromagnetics (FDEM),
  • Seismic (MASW and SRT),
  • Electrical Resistivity (Tomography and 4 pin),
  • Magnetics, and others.
• Will assist Mid-Level and Senior Geophysicist on various projects.
• Performs site visits, field observations and field data collection for assignments.
• Capable of working independently with the support of senior level geophysicist to collect data, and/or document site conditions, for subsurface site characterization.
• Processes, evaluates, and interprets geophysical data and works to assist senior geophysicist on various projects.
• Will work in collaboration with a team of professionals to see various projects to completion.
• May serve as a team member or participate in meetings and communication with client pertaining to specific projects/tasks.
• May oversee work performed by other field technicians.
• Drives commercial motor vehicles, however a CDL license is not expected.
• The candidate should be organized and capable of performing, collecting, and managing field data.
• Completes paperwork including record keeping, field sketches, detailed notes, and maps of field work legibly and accurately.
• Must be a good communicator and work independently or in a group setting.
• Must be willing to learn and grow to the next level.
• The candidate should be willing to train and direct others as needed.
• The candidate should have a basic knowledge and understanding of excel, power point, with good writing skills and a general knowledge of various geophysical equipment.
• The ideal candidate will have experience collecting and processing geophysicaldata using one or more methods.
• The candidate should be able to travel to various project locations across Minnesota and willing at times to perform overnight stay. Travel to North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Iowa are also possible with opportunities across the country depending on work load.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in a physical science, Geology or Geophysics degree preferred.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
• Minimum 0 to 3 years of experience.
• Willingness to travel.
