Job Description
General Responsibilities:
Ideal candidate will have a growth mindset with an entrepreneurial spirit that has a desire to lead and develop a seven person staff located in our Baton Rouge, LA office. Position will also support our expanded Lake Charles, LA satellite office. The Department Manager will have the opportunity to collaborate with offices across the Gulf Coast division, with a particular focus on working regionally with offices located in New Orleans, LA, and Shreveport, LA. We have a dynamic local operation consisting of approximately 40 team members. Our environmental department has local expertise in Due Diligence, Site Investigation/Site Closure and Remediation, Environmental Planning, Regulatory Compliance, Industrial Hygiene and Hazardous Materials (Asbestos, Lead and Indoor Air Quality) consulting services. You will be joining a team of professionals including Engineers, Geologist and Environmental Scientists supported by experienced environmental field specialists. Our environmental department has experienced continued growth, providing a motivated and capable leader significant opportunity for continued success and professional advancement.
This person will supervise or monitor all projects in progress in the department to ensure that work is executed on time and in accordance with the client’s requirements and within company policies, procedures, and standards. In addition, you will supervise the preparation of proposals and cost estimates to clients to ensure proper scoping of services, availability of manpower and pricing to achieve desired profitability while also supervising the daily operations of a department.
Finally, this person will plan for and participate in business development activities to identify, develop, win, and execute project opportunities and build and maintain client relationships.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for preparation of proposals and cost estimates.
- With support from the Office Manager and Client Development Manager perform business and client development activities.
- With support from the Office Manager, develop and manage employee staffing plans, recruitment, selection and on-boarding.
- With support from the Office Manager, prepare and execute the department's annual business plan.
- With support from the Office Manager, oversee and manage the success of the key department metrics of revenue growth, staff chargeability, project billing and collections, and project profitability.
- Develop understanding and be aware of project-related risk. Be familiar with what could go wrong on a project and how to protect the Company. Be familiar with company risk policies.
- Lead safety efforts for team and ensure team follows safety rules and guidelines. Responsible for creating and modeling a safe work environment; demonstrates safety practices. Promote pre-task planning for all projects.
- Promote continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects. Monitor quality standards and practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in technical discipline practiced by the Firm including Engineering, Environmental Science or Geology or Public Health
- 8 to 10 years’ practice experience. Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 15 years’ related experience.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
- Certification or licensure in field of expertise.
- Professional Engineer (PE), Professional Geologist (PG), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or related preferred
