Job Description
General Responsibilities:
Terracon's Asheville, North Carolina office is seeking an Environmental Project Manager to join our Environmental Team! Our Asheville office has a diverse client base in both public and private sectors working with commercial, industrial, government, property development and institutional market entities. As an Environmental Project Manager, you will work in the office and field on Phase I Environmental Site Assessments; Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs); soil excavation oversight; remedial and vapor mitigation systems installations; chemical and amendment injections; and operation, maintenance, and monitoring (OM&M) of remedial and vapor mitigation systems. You will lead field teams in environmental investigation and remedial action implementation with sites throughout the beautiful eastern Tennessee, western North Carolina, and southwestern Virginia Appalachian Mountains. You will also work with staff preparing various deliverables to include Limited Site Investigation (LSI) Reports, Site Characterization Reports (SCRs), Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Studies, Remedial Action Plans, and other project deliverables. This position will report directly to the Asheville Environmental Department Manager and will work closely with the Department's staff in a mentorship, coaching and leadership capacity. This position also entails working closely with senior company leadership to strategically plan to prosperously drive growth in the environmental service line both locally and nationally.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
- Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
- Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
- Career level, fully competent Engineer/Geologist/Scientist responsible for planning, scheduling, conducting or coordinating detailed phases of work for part of a major project or total of a project of moderate scope and complexity.
- Career level, fully competent professional responsible for the planning, designing, scheduling, implementing, and managing technical scopes of work related to advanced site characterization.
- Leads development of proposals and scopes of work for both routine and complex site investigations to assess soil, groundwater, soil vapor, and indoor air sampling impacted by organic and inorganic contaminants. Uses innovative investigative techniques to complete work.
- Assists with designs, documents, and supervises installation of remediation systems (soil, groundwater and vapor) and operation and maintenance (O&M) of remediation systems, as well as provides supervision and technical support to junior staff performing the same functions.
- Assists with designs, documents, and supervises installation of vapor mitigation or sub-slab depressurization systems and O&M of said systems, as well as provides supervision and technical support to junior staff performing the same function.
- Career level, fully competent professional responsible for the planning, designing, scheduling, implementing, and managing technical scopes of work related to source removal excavations, industrial infrastructure decommissioning, and supervision of related remedial construction services.
- Applies standard practices and techniques in specific situations, adjusts and correlates data, recognizes discrepancies in results and follow operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes.
- Leads preparation of written proposals to clients for both small and large projects and quality review of proposals written by junior staff.
- Assists in continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects and for Terracon policies and procedures used in conducting site investigations, remedial design, implementation of all fieldwork, and preparing associated deliverables.
- Responsible for implementing safety rules, guidelines, and standards for all projects and participate in pre-task planning meetings and
- Participate in the development of marketing strategies and presentations of qualifications to clients on project basis.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science or related field and a minimum of 7 years' related experience.
- Working knowledge of NCDEQ, TDEC, VADEQ, SCDHEC, CERCLA and RCRA regulations.
- Must be able to pass a background check, drug screen and have an acceptable driving record.
- High level of verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated high level of technical writing ability. Must provide authored technical document upon request.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Completed OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training.
- Project Management Professional (PMP)
- Professional Engineer (PE), Professional Geologist (PG) or similar professional registration/certification relevant to the type of services and projects being managed
