Explore with us! Terracon is seeking a senior level professional with experience in investigation, design, and repair of roofing systems in South Texas to cover projects in San Antonio, Laredo and the Valley. The purpose of this position is to support existing business and assist with growth and diversification of our current business in facilities engineering services including building enclosure consulting services.

General Responsibilities:
  • Lead field activities related to building enclosure construction observation and testing including but not limited to construction of roof, waterproofing, walls, air barriers, and glazed systems. Participate on teams in the performance of building diagnostics projects primarily for commercial roofing assemblies (low and steep slope systems, green roofs a plus) and including water proofing systems (below and above grade, as well as, vertical and horizontal systems).
  • Perform and/or assist in performing field investigations, including moisture intrusion, non-destructive testing, and uplift testing. Candidate must be capable and willing to perform field work at heights, primarily roof levels of buildings.
  • Work closely with project teams and clients in developing construction documents (e.g.: plans, sections, details, technical specifications) related to building envelope assemblies.
  • Prepare field observation reports and participate in the development of other technical content in conformance with Terracon’s quality and professional standards and policies.
  • Understand basic concepts of client management and project management including establishing understanding client expectations and its alignment with authorized scope of work, project objectives, schedules, project-specific safety plans, and management of project deliverables. Be open and available for project management training offered by Terracon to take on higher responsibility with progressive experience.
  • Assists project managers and senior engineers/architects in developing building enclosure consulting scopes of service, project budgets, and participate in client presentations.
  • Supervise and mentor other junior field professionals.
  • Actively participate in technical and professional associations.
  • Some overnight travel (about 10%-25%) should be expected depending on workload and project locations.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Senior level Facilities professional who acts as a resource and specialist.
  • Manages, leads or consults on large, complex or unique projects.
  • Capable of analyzing all technical aspects of subject area, defining scope and selecting problems for investigation, developing novel concepts and approaches, and recommending solutions.
  • Participates in the development of marketing strategies and formal presentations of qualifications to clients on various projects in area of expertise.
  • Identifies potential clients in need of consulting expertise and sells the services of the company to those clients.
  • Provides leadership, technical direction/expertise, and training to all staff under direction while performing on client projects.
  • Holds leadership roles in national/international professional organizations, including authoring technical papers and delivery of presentations.
  • Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
  • Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in roofing systems review, installation observations, and/or assessments.
  • IIBEC designation as an active RRO is highly preferred. Additional IIBEC credentials such as REWO and RRC are a plus.
  • High school diploma. Bachelor’s degree in construction related degree courses preferred.
  • Certified Thermographer, CDT, or similar certificates are a plus.
  • Expertise in roofing systems required and working knowledge of one or more of the following is preferred: wall claddings, glazed assemblies, waterproofing, and building enclosure diagnostic testing.
  • Must have a working knowledge of basic building construction systems.
  • Experience in building enclosure restoration involving managing bulk water, water vapor transmission, air leakage, and thermal transmission is a plus.
  • Good writing skills (field reports with findings and observations articulated to report facts by comparing with project design documents) and good verbal skills (interacting with clients, contractors, other experts and ability to articulate observations and findings from observed construction work).
  • Experience working on elevated work platforms and walking surfaces including ground supported and suspended scaffolding as well as aerial boom and scissor lifts associated with access of mid- to high-rise building facades and roofs.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
