Job Description
Terracon is looking for a Senior Project Manager to grow and expand our hazardous materials and industrial hygiene business in Northern California. Successful candidate must be a California Certified Asbestos Consultant (CAC) and be lead certified under the California Department of Public Health (CDPH).

As a Senior Project Manager with asbestos and lead credentials, you will work closely with the Environmental Department Manager and will supervise our hazardous materials and industrial hygiene projects to ensure that work is performed timely and cost effectively while meeting our client’s requirements as well as company policies, procedures, and standards. You and our East Bay team will work together to prepare winning proposals for asbestos, lead, and other hazardous materials and IH surveys, prepare bid specifications, and coordinate abatement oversight. You will prepare and review reports documenting surveys and abatement projects for clients and will coach and mentor junior staff on quality data generation and reporting. As a supervisor, you will have the opportunity to participate in leading the daily operations of a growing team including staff training & development, performance conversations, safe utilization of equipment and facilities, quality of services and work product, timely delivery of services and deliverables, and overall quality and client experience. In addition, you will also participate in business development activities with the office leadership team to identify, develop, win, and execute exciting project opportunities and build and maintain client relationships.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Lead safety efforts and ensure the Group follows safety rules and guidelines. Responsible for creating and modeling a safe work environment, demonstrating safety practices, and promoting pre-task planning for all projects.
  • Prepare proposals for hazardous materials and IH investigations
  • Lead and/or perform field surveys for asbestos, lead-containing paint, and other regulated hazardous substances.
  • Lead and/or conduct IH sampling, provide results, analysis, and interpretation
  • Conduct IH risk assessments, documenting site activities and making written recommendations relative to project health and safety.
  • Prepare reports documenting the findings of surveys and communicating results and recommendations to clients.
  • Review technical reports prepared by Group members to ensure quality and accuracy of reported findings.
  • Manage and mentor junior staff.
  • Develop understanding and be aware of project-related risks and company risk policies.
  • Promote continuous quality monitoring of existing standards and practices and provide recommendations relative to improvements.
  • With support from the Department/Office manager:
    • perform business and client development activities.
    • develop and manage employee staffing plans, recruitment, selection, and on-boarding.
    • prepare and execute annual business plan as it pertains to the position.
    • oversee the success of the key Group metrics of revenue growth, staff chargeability project billing and collections, and project profitability.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a science or worker health and safety-related discipline such as Environmental Health, Chemistry, Industrial Safety or Industrial Hygiene.
  • Minimum of 7+ years hazardous materials/IH practice experience or equivalent.
  • Current California Certified Asbestos Consultant (CAC) credential.
  • Current California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Lead Construction Program certification as an Inspector/Assessor and/or Project Monitor.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with clients and team.
  • Valid driver’s license, and insurable driving record.
Preferred:
  • Solid understanding of Cal/OSHA requirements
  • Strong background in chemistry

The expected salary range for this position is listed below. The base range may be adjusted based on the specific location of the applicant. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
$92600 - $143600 annually
