Terracon's Atlanta office is looking for a Building Enclosure Testing Technician to work in our Structural Diagnostics group. This is an entry to mid-level position in a growing group and will provide the successful applicant with significant on-site experience and an opportunity to grow a long-term career with the group and company.

Although this position will be focused on Structural Diagnostics you'll be joining a Facilities team that also works directly with our Mechanical, Electrical, and Building Enclosures staff and team of Registered Professional Engineers and Architects.  We work with our senior professionals and project teams to continually integrate and develop new and exciting technology for best-in-class project delivery and processes. Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Roof Installation Quality Assurance Observations – perform observations of roof system installations by contractors for compliance with project plans, specification and approved shop drawings.

  • Existing Roof System Condition Assessments – perform field assessment of existing commercial and residential roofing systems to determine current and existing deficiencies warranting repair;/replacement.  Assist in developing scope for repair of deficiencies/replacement of roof system. Perform visual assessment for storm (hail/wind) damage on existing roof system.

  • Building Enclosure System Testing (BEST) – perform visual observations and testing of air barrier systems coating adhesion and air infiltration, visual observations and air testing of fenestration systems (window, curtain walls, sloped glazing’s) for air infiltration and water penetration and visual observation and testing of exterior wall finish systems.  Will set up and operate field testing equipment associated with our BEST services.

  • May sample suspect asbestos-containing building materials in accordance with AHERA guidelines after receiving required training and obtaining necessary certifications.

  • May assist in the preparation and working of basic reports after performing field observations of the installation of basic building enclosure projects.

  • Shall perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience or the equivalent in training and related experience.

  • Experience with laptop computer use and Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.

  • Ability to work in both a field construction environment and office / laboratory environment.

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.

Preferred:

  • Associates degree in Engineering Technology or similar related field.

  • WABO / ICC / ACI certifications in construction inspection disciplines.

  • Relevant experience understanding, performing and documenting ASTM, ANSI or similar test procedures.
