In this role you will work under the direction of the Environmental Planning Group Manager, with a team of professional experts in our environmental department working on dynamic projects collaboratively with colleagues and clients to ensure work is executed on time and within budget.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
  • You will be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects while following safety rules and guidelines.
  • You will help contribute to and carry out archeological investigations of all types (pre-contact, historic, industrial, rural, urban) and phases (survey, evaluation, mitigation) to regulatory agency standards on projects located in Texas and adjacent areas and other US regions, as assigned.
  • You will support other non-archeological Environmental Planning projects, tasks, and activities as assigned.
  • You will conduct independent pre-contact and historic documentary research
  • You will contribute to proposals, methodologies, and research designs for all types and phases of archeological projects.
  • You will help supervise and coordinate field and laboratory crews.
  • You will support the marketing of our archeological services to new and existing clients.
  • You will participate in pre-task planning and report any safety issues or concerns to management.

This position will come with opportunities to manage projects according to Terracon’s Project Manager standards and expectations.

Required
  • Master's degree in Anthropology, Archeology, or closely related field.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of previous professional archeological experience.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of previous experience at a supervisory level (crew chief, technical lead, Principal Investigator) in Texas and adjacent states and regions.
  • Experience with writing technical reports that meet and exceed regulatory requirements and standards in Texas.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting, and walking on uneven surfaces carrying at least 20 lbs. of equipment, and ability to work in extreme (hot/cold) weather conditions.
  • Ability to travel for overnight (including multiple days away) work assignments.
  • Ability to pass drug screening.
  • Possession of a U.S. driver’s license, with acceptable violation history.

Preferred:
• Working knowledge of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and the Antiquities Code of Texas.
• Membership in statewide professional associations such as the Council of Texas Archeologists, and/or other evidence of professional engagement in the larger community.
• Previous experience with and understanding of curation procedures and requirements according to standards within Texas.
• Experience with ArcGIS and digital recording tools and platforms for use in the field.
• Experience and technical familiarity with at least one artifact category commonly encountered in Texas and/or surrounding region(s).
